Spring starts well for FMM as we fly off to NYC. The weather is good and we are all geared up to pound the streets. Day 1 starts in the garment district, on 37th st, meeting at the famous Mood fabrics, home to Project Runway, to see the wealth of fabrics, designers at work and traders in an Aladdins cave of choice. Beautiful metallic leathers laid out, and tons of denim and chambrays available for sampling. This fitted in well with the exhibition on Denim and fairy tales at FiT as we hot footed down another ten blocks.
This new exhibition just opened showed an amazing diverse selection of denim from Levis standard blue, Hippies up-cycling patchwork to more contemporary 'premium denim' brands such as Acne. In contrast Fairytale Fashion looks at how designers use fairy tales to inspire collections. The most beautiful designed and styled dresses including Alexander McQueen, Rodarte and Prada demonstrating the characters, the disguise and the story influence all brought together. What we would pay to be Red Riding Hood and wear the Rei Kawakabo cape in red patent leather Strips!
Then onto the Meatpacking district to see the latest new contemporary stores and can't not pop into Theory to see the new seasons launch. Tonite we met at the Ace hotel to see how the mid town New Yorkers unwind after work, and with DJ nite with Nellek. A chilled out scene til early hours. Looking forward to meeting Ace marketing manager to Hear the story of Ace and behind the scenes on fashion locations and how Ace has influenced a whole collaborative scene during New York Fashion Week.
