My name is Frances McMahon, a recent graduate from the University of Southampton, where I studied the (BA Hons) Fashion Marketing and Management course at Winchester School of Art. It was a three year course, and I learnt a huge amount in those years which allowed me to start my career soon after in a Marketing Co-ordinator role for film and animation company, Digifish.
How did my studies on the programme support me?
The course definitely helped prepare me for going into my career. We were taught modules ranging from the very basics of marketing to detailed modules on consumer behaviour, PR, Buying, Merchandising, digital marketing and detailed workshops into the Adobe Creative Cloud programs. Whilst the course covered many different areas, being a coursework only based programme allowed me to tailor my research into Marketing - in particular digital marketing and social media. The course encouraged us to set up a blog, which was what I tailored my final major project to. Turning my blog into a business and documenting my real life experiences of building a brand through digital marketing also helped me land my first graduate job at Digifish, in September.
What am I doing now?
I’m a Sales & Marketing Coordinator at Digifish, building and growing their online presence through digital marketing. Since starting at Digifish, I have had training in areas such as email marketing, SEO, Adobe Creative Cloud software, and direct marketing. I have also had the opportunity to go on shoots with the team, when the film crew go out on location. Recently, I attended the Clothes Show, as Digifish were filming for Boots’ hair brand, Mark Hill Hair. I was in charge of producing a behind the scenes video, a blog post including imagery from the event and running their social channels throughout the event. It’s important for customers to see the company in action and what a typical large event filming day involves. They could be filming a University interview one day, to filming a live event for Sony Playstation! It is a fantastic place to work, every day is different and it allows me to incorporate my photography and videography skills, that I developed on my Fashion Marketing course.
If you want to see the type of behind the scenes content I produce for www.digifish.tv, you can take a look at the short behind the scenes video below that I made whilst filming Digifish at the Mark Hill Hair live event last weekend.
